HYGGE

I was given this book by my husband for Christmas [ok, I might have picked it out myself] but for a while now I've wanted to find out more about 'Hygge'. Why the Danes seem to be some of the happiest people in the world - and, who seem to know how to live so well.

It may take me a little while to get through this, albeit, little book as I'm not a huge reader [much to my mother's disappointment] but one initial thought is how 'home' features heavily - in fact, there's a whole chapter on it.

It talks about how 'home is central to social life in Denmark' whereas other countries have more of a culture of social life taking place in bars, restaurants and cafes. But the Danes prefer 'home hygge'.

This led me to think of ways I can 'hygge-up' my home and create my own special culture to invite our family and friends into, which could be anything from a new piece of reclaimed furniture to installing a wood burner or a new lamp, rug, or even just a candle to encourage a more welcoming and cosy ambience.

Happy New Year - here's to living well in 2018!!
